David Brin joins us for EV 2018!
Award-winning science fiction author and Museum advisory board member, David Brin is coming to Escape Velocity! David’s book, Heaven’s Reach is perfectly on-theme for this year’s event: Other Worlds. David will be discussing Fractal World of his Uplift series (a fresh spin on the Dyson Sphere idea), a cluster of space habitats circling a white dwarf and the science behind building artificial worlds. Shape the Future: Arthur C. Clarke and the Power of Imagination!
This year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Arthur C. Clarke, renowned writer, futurist, and technologist. In honor of Sir Arthur, the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation is launching an intergenerational imagination movement to unleash imagination’s power to address the momentous challenges that will shape humanity’s future. The kickoff for this undertaking will be the first “Unleash Imagination – Shape the Future” Conference on be December 9, 2017 at George Washington University —a few days shy of Sir Arthur’s birthday. We will follow it with presentation of the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Awards and a special Centenary Celebration Dinner. Click here to read more.

International Costume Competition and Fashion Show
To celebrate the importance of fashion and costume design to creating rich worlds and expanding our imaginations, the Museum is holding an international costume competition and fashion show. See finalists raising the bar with wearable technologyand coded costumes. Astrid Bear, grand master costumer and wife of science fiction author Greg Bear will be on the jury panel to evaluate the finalists.
