Frankenstein: 200 years later

Frankenstein: 200 years later
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s seminal literary masterpiece next year, the Museum is building our own creature with the help of Tom Spina Designs and the graduate costume production program at UNC Chapel Hill. The team is creating an animated replica of the iconic monster with the capability of allowing people to control certain features from their iOS or Android mobile device via the Museum’s mobile app.

This project highlights several important aspects that resonate perfectly with Escape Velocity multidisciplinary mission: women in science fiction, literature, science (the creature’s biology in this case), robotics (our display animatronics), coding (the Museum’s mobile app and control of the creature’s animatronics), and art (the display object, the creature).
